Jeremy is on vacation this week. He’s feeling quite productive, apparently, and is crossing things off of his “to-do” list. Having the girls away at their Papaw’s house makes this happen much more easily.
We’ve been trying for quite sometime to decide what to do about their bedroom situation. They’re in a bunk bed that I got for them quite impulsively. I knew it would be a temporary thing, I think. It’s fun for them, but they need something nicer. They like being I like for them to sleep in the same room so we decided to go with two twin beds so that we could separate them when the time comes.
I began shopping around and decided that I just didn’t want to spend too much on beds for them. I couldn’t believe how much kids beds could be! I really wanted to find something solid wood, maybe an older bed, at a flea market or a yard sale that I could work on. But, being the impatient person I am, I couldn’t wait for yard sale season to arrive (though now it’s here).
Jeremy started looking online for bed plans (unbeknownst to me) and found a simple plan that he thought he could tackle. He bought the lumber this week for one bed and started it yesterday. We got one bed well underway and plan to have them both finished by the end of the week. Here are few progress pics!

Can’t wait to get them painted white and get the girls’ room looking great!
We bought them a really cute pink and green plaid bedding set for each of their beds. Hopsy over at Kappa Prep will be SO proud of me!
I really love the idea in this picture. I love the initial under the canopy, but I think instead of it being a rub-on or stenciled onto the wall, I’d use a wooden letter instead so I could move it later if I wanted.

Now, my yard….My yard is making me nuts! Weeds are taking us over right now. I’m envious of my across-the-street neighbor’s yard. It has absolutely NO weeds, and you can see it in this picture I took of our dead birch tree. By the way, I hate birch trees.

Notice the difference in my yard and hers?
We’ve never hired anyone to take care of our lawn, and our friends recommended someone to us so we called him and he came out yesterday. He was very reasonably priced and is going to get our yard looking great, I’m sure. If you live in NEA, his name is Lowell Thompson with Lawn Tech. He said we should be patient since we’re just starting out with this yard, but if we’ll stick with it, we’ll be pleased. I think that a nicely groomed yard says so much about a home and the people who live in it. I want our yard and our home to look nice and to show that we care about our neighborhood.
I wanted to take some before and after photos, so here we go.

This is the same birch that you saw above. It’s going to have to come down. Just breaks my heart, can’t you tell? Not sure what we’ll plant there….something ornamental. A cherry tree maybe?

Here’s a weed in the middle of what is otherwise a patch of good soon-to-be grass.

Here’s my flower bed. It contains a crepe myrtle (dark pink) and a few good sized azaleas. It needs attention. Lawn dude might work on it, too…..later. It makes me nervous….Maybe I should be out pulling weeds right now instead of sitting here!!! I really need to plant some hosta and clean out the ground cover that is there already. Help!!
